How Many People Should You Tell?

The answer depends on the topic. Or does it? Sometimes even happy news can be savored for awhile before you open yourself up to the public.

What about a conflict with a partner or family member? Here’s where I draw the line. The conflict is between the two of you - not everyone else. The more you speak of the conflict, the more people and opinions get involved, the cloudier and messier things get. You can’t take back words spoke and even if others have the best of intent, their words have the potential to skew you because if you’re reaching out during anxious and unsettling times, you’re not at your cognitive best. You’re more susceptible to negative input. That’s something to guard against.

Be careful you dont’ paint certain people as more okay to tell than others. Churches are made up of people and regardless of a position, the person you tell may not have the qualifications to properly listen.

Check the resume of the person you are going to talk with.
