Ignorance Doesn’t Mean It Doesn’t Hurt
The other day I participated in a lengthy conversation with several colleagues. We were discussing what it was like for marginalized people in everyday life when our society continues to appear to privilege only certain groups of people. It may look like an exaggeration to promote certain groups, my colleagues asserted, but it’s really an attempt to make things more equal and even out the fields of experience.
Today I participated in a conversation with my knitting group about the idea of being fair for everyone. In our state, no one arrested has to pay any bail to get out of jail. My fellow knitters informed me that it was so people who can’t afford bail aren’t mistreated.
